Service-level effects of HIV funding cuts

Share

A new report by the ITPC in partnership with NACOSA in South Africa and JONEHA in Malawi, presents findings from a community-led early warning system activated in response to recent US foreign aid cuts. Through focus group discussions with healthcare workers and recipients of care in six districts across Malawi and South Africa, the report captures the ripple effects the cuts are having on HIV services at clinic level.

Key findings include:

  • Termination of over $800 million in HIV grants
  • Widespread confusion at clinic level about treatment guidance
  • Barriers to HIV prevention and treatment for key populations
  • Ripple effects of staffing cuts on health systems functionality

Communities are sounding the alarm. Are we listening?
