Anova Health Institute is strengthening HIV prevention and care efforts in the City of Cape Town through its role as an implementing partner of NACOSA’s My Journey Programme, funded by the Global Fund. The programme focuses on improving access to HIV prevention options, treatment, and support services for communities that need the most support.

The My Journey Programme will make a real difference in Cape Town by giving young people the support and opportunities they need to build safer, healthier futures,” says Diana Mokoena.

Anova Health Institute is a leading South African non-profit organisation, established in 2009, focused on improving health outcomes and expanding access to care. For more than two decades, the organisation has partnered with government, donors, healthcare workers, and communities to deliver high quality public health programmes.

As part of the My Journey Programme, Anova will implement services in two sub-districts in the City of Cape Town. The work will focus on HIV prevention and care for young women and girls, including HIV prevention options, sexual and reproductive health services, and psychosocial support to help young people make informed choices.

The My Journey programme is aligned with South Africa’s South African National AIDS Council National Strategic Plan on HIV, TB and STIs, which aims to reduce new infections and address structural drivers of vulnerability.

HIV and teenage pregnancy remain serious concerns in the Western Cape, with increasing early sexual activity before the age of 15. These challenges make it clear that young people need strong HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health services, and support programmes.

Through local clinics, outreach programmes, and strong community partnerships, Anova connects with communities to help young people access healthcare and support services in safe spaces where they are not judged.

Anova’s work helps build healthier communities in the Western Cape, reaching those who are most at risk of HIV and other health challenges. The organisation provides practical support, guidance, and care that young people can rely on. In doing so, Anova plays an important role in helping South Africa move closer to winning the fight against HIV.
