Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur

The United Nations Commission on Human Rights Special Rapporteur, Dr Dubravka Šimonović, visited South Africa in December 2015 and held a dialogue facilitated by NACOSA at the Nonceba Family Counselling Centre in Khayelitsha on 8 December 2015. Input, comment and discussion was provided by representatives from civil society organisations working in the field of gender based violence.

Supporting the people of the AIDS response

The NACOSA Consultative Forum at the 2015 Annual General Meeting therefore discussed Supporting the people of the HIV, AIDS and TB response. The following questions were posed: How do we support the people and programs to be most effective on the ground? What are the challenges they face? How do we prevent burnout and fatigue? What are the most pressing gaps in knowledge and skills? What strategies can we employ to be more effective in our response?

Women and children as key populations

The NACOSA Consultative Forum at the November 2014 AGM asked the question: Should women and children be considered key populations? Groups of people from NACOSA network organisations, facilitated by staff members, discussed and debated the issue. The feedback from these discussions is summarised and shared with SANAC and other relevant national structures so that the issues raised can be heard by policy makers.
