NACOSA represents civil society and our Network members on the Provincial Council on AIDS in the Eastern Cape. Advocacy issues raised during Consultative Forums will be tabled as well as an update given of the Global Fund Community Systems Strengthening programme through a co-ordinated PR (Principle Recipient) report.

Poster abstract presented by Caroline Wills at the International AIDS Conference 2016 in Durban on integrating HIV testing services (HTS) into support programmes for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in South Africa. The Global Fund supported NACOSA and NRASD to implement an OVC programme from 1 October 2013 – 31 March 2016, focused on delivering a more HIV-focused package of services. The programme supported 76 community based organisations in all nine South African provinces with HTS – one of a range of services offered.

NACOSA was pleased to get a visit from Jenny Bornman, the Deputy Director of Lesedi Hospice in the Free State who came all the way to update us on the organisation’s progress since receiving capacity building support from NACOSA. “The positivity of our programme is that it takes a holistic approach toward the whole family,” says Jenny proudly of the range of interventions Lesedi provides in the small, Free State community of Hertzogville where almost 95% of inhabitants are unemployed. With the motto “where caring never ends”, Jenny and the team provide primary health care and palliative home based care…
