Networking
NACOSA's networking programme brings the HIV, AIDS and TB community together by:
- facilitating joint action
- hosting consultative forums
- disseminating newsletters, information and referrals
- promoting best practice
- promoting district multi-sectoral coordination
- providing a platform for debate and reflection
- maintaining a database of HIV/AIDS organisations working on the ground
Our role as the network for HIV/AIDS and TB service providers in the province has grown dramatically over the last few years and is key to the continued success of our capacity building work.
Summits NACOSA's two-yearly Masibambisane Summits have become the benchmark for bringing the HIV/AIDS community together. Since our first Masibambisane in 2002, others have been inspired to organise their own summits across South Africa. Limpopo, for example, hosted their first Masibambisane in February 2007.
Regional networking NACOSA believes that regional networking and communication is vital to integration and coordination of services. With the increasing demand for support services and the government's plans to roll out Home Based Care and ARV treatment, civil society will be need all the support they can get to ensure the success of these programmes.
NACOSA’s regional forums, public meetings and newsletter are crucial to providing up to date information, promoting dialogue and, most importantly, mobilising communities to find indigenous and local responses to support the implementation of the national strategic plan.
Children and Community Based Care NACOSA also runs two sector-specific programmes: the Children’s HIV/AIDS Network (CHAiN) and the Community Based Care Coalition (CBCC). These previously-independent programmes have been fully integrated into NACOSA’s operations, expanding its scope and ensuring that all HIV/AIDS networking and coordination comes together under one representative structure. It is with this mandate, that NACOSA is elected and represents the collective NGO and CBO community on the Provincial AIDS Council. |
