Mentoring
We target small, grassroots, community-based organisations in the rural regions of the Western Cape as well as in the metropolitan centre of Cape Town. We help them to develop their organisations and become more sustainable.
Benefits Our innovative mentoring model doesn’t just get organisations off the ground, it:
- Makes them more sustainable by boosting their fundraising capacity
- Builds the skills and confidence of staff and volunteers
- Promotes accountability and transparency by putting adequate financial controls and systems in place
- Connects grassroots organisations with each other and the wider HIV and AIDS sector through joint training and networking
- Promotes shared learning and best practice
10 Steps to sustainability Our 10 Step Mentoring Model begins with an initial organisational assessment where we identify priority areas for development. We then draft a mentorship agreement with the organisation – outlining the scope of works. Over the course of two years, we implement the agreement with training workshops (including conflict resolution, financial and leadership training), on-site coaching and mentoring visits. The programme includes structured follow-up with each organisation and access to the NACOSA network.
View the 10 steps Improving outcomes Close co-operation with regional HIV coordinators and other stakeholders in the community has been vital to the development and success of this programme. So we work closely with regional health staff and other role players to continuously evaluate the mentoring model, improving outcomes for HIV and AIDS organisations.
Our Mentoring Programme helps to nurture grassroots organisations, promoting a co-ordinated, sustainable response to HIV and AIDS. |
