"Many of the advances made in the last ten years stand to be reversed, if we don't act DECISIVELY and if we don't act TOGETHER."

Advocacy

Community based organisations are critical partners in the successful implementation of government programmes and the nation’s strategic HIV/AIDS plan. But many NGOs and CBOs lack the knowledge and resources to negotiate effectively with government.

We provide our members with a voice in government. Our Advocacy work seeks to influence policies and actions through engagement with civil society - bringing government and the NGO community together to build an effective, multi-sectoral response to HIV and AIDS in the Western Cape.

NACOSA's Advocacy work includes:

  • representing the NGO sector on the Provincial AIDS Council, the Global Fund Management Committee and the SANAC NGO & childrens Sector working groups.  Download the latest reports.
  • lobbying government and local district councils for increased civil socidety participation in provincial programme planning and access to resources and assistance.  We are inthe process of launching our CBCC (Community Based Care Coalition) with the main aim to promote dialogue and form a partnership between the NGO sector and decision makers.
  • promoting consultation between district councils and local HIV/AIDS NGOs and CBOs
  • promoting increased political commitment amongst rural and urban municipality counsellors toward developing local HIV/AIDS and TB plans
  • providing technical assitance to rural municipalities to establish local HIV/AIDS plans
  • lobbying for provincial and regional IDP forums to make HIV/AIDS a priority area and motivate for NACOSA participation
