NACOSA has a permanent staff of 15 under the directorship of Dr Maureen Van Wyk and a highly committed Executive Committee of 12 – led by our Chairperson, Dr Saadiq Kariem, Chief Operations Officer of Cape Town’s Groote Schuur Hospital.
NACOSA's Regional Representatives are members of civil society who voluntarily offer their expertise, skills, knowledge and experience to assist in promoting and implementing NACOSA’s operations regionally. NACOSA staff
Dr Maureen Van Wyk, Director Maureen holds a doctorate in Social Sciences and has both regional and urban Western Cape experience. She managed a large community organisation and prior to that she was a regional coordinator in the Department of Social Services. She brings a wealth of managerial experience to the organization and has started a process of quality assurance within NACOSA.
Sydney Davis, Operations Manager Sydney holds qualifications in Theology, Business Management and Adult education and has a lifetime of experience in capacitating and empowering people through life skills development. His experience in management has has equipped him to excel in his current position.
Petra Frith, Finance & Admin Manager Petra holds a diploma in Financial Accounting and Financial Management Accounting and has worked with a number of NPOs on a part time basis over the past 15 years. She serves as the Treasurer on a Shelter Committee of the Haven Night Shelter Organisation.
Menaka Jayakody, CHAiN & CBCC Manager Menaka is a qualified occupational therapist with extensive experience in community development, networking and psychosocial support services. She has a keen interest in new methods of working with children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
Marlene Davids, OVC Mentor/Trainer Marlene has worked in a variety of positions within the NGO sector over the past 18 years including educare, after school care, and as a facilitator and trainer. She has completed Adult Training at CACE-UWC and Parenting Skill Development and Budgeting at UCT.
Nomfundo Dubula, Mentor/Trainer (Metro) Nomfundo holds a diploma in Education. She has extensive experience in mentoring and training in the Metropole area. She has served on the Governing boards of the Treatment Project and the Aids Law Project.
Maxine Oppelt, Mentor/Trainer (Northern Cape) Maxine has been in the teaching profession for 12 years before she became involved in the struggle against HIV/AIDS. She qualified as a facilitator for CAPSA and as a mentor for Ikwezi Aids Orphan Programme.
Roro Makubalo, Mentor/Trainer (OVC Programme) Roro holds a BA Honours Degree in Psychology and has worked as a counsellor for Childline. She is qualified in counselling, health and wellness and academic development.
Bernadette Liedeman, Training Coordinator Bernadette has more than 10 years experience in education, training and development. She has achieved a higher diploma in ETD-Adult Literacy through the University of the Western Cape in 2004. She contributes her vast knowledge in Capacity Building, Networking and Organisational Development.
Neziswa Mdaka, CBC Coordinator Neziswa holds an honours degree in Social Sciences and has an extensive experience in community development, working with urban and rural communities nationally in networking, advocacy and lobbying. Alani Esterhuyse, Programme Manager Northern Cape Alani studied Social work at the University of the Orange Free State. She occupied several positions in her career as a social worker with a special interest in the health field. Since 2004 she worked for the Hospice Palliative Care Association (HPCA) in the Northern Cape first as a regional mentor & later as a provincial coordinator. She is particularly passionate about the influence of HIV on the communities of the Northern Cape & concerned about the unique challenges HIV patients face there.
Benèlton Jumath, Personal Assistant to the Director Benèlton holds a diploma in IT and Community Development from Boland College. Benèlton has good computer and administrative skills and is also responsible for maintaining the organisation’s website and Training Information Management System.
Shireen Skippers, Programme Administrator Shireen is responsible for all the Program administration. Shireen has experience in developing training manuals and adult education.
Nocawe Mxobo, OVC Programme Administrator Nocawe is qualified in office administration and has worked for Gender Advocacy Programme, Rape Crisis and Western Cape Network on Violence Against Women.
Andiswa Mphumela, Junior Financial Administrator Educated at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, (Diploma in Office Management and Technology), she has worked as an Admin Clerk previously. Andiswa's strength is discipline and precision and she is looking to gain more experience to further her career.
Kholeka Sokuyekwa, Receptionist/Office Administrator Kholeka has been one of the movers and shakers in her community. She has a BA Degree in Women & Gender Studies & has experience in social development work in the NGO sector.
Nokwamkela Dunjwa, Admin Assistant/Housekeeper Nokwamkela is admin assistant and housekeeper and has been with WC-NACOSA for 5 years.

Dr Saadiq Kariem, Chairperson Chief Operations Officer at Groote Schuur Hospital. Dr Kariem has vast senior experience in health management at Provincial Health and with Groote Schuur Hospital and has steered WC-NACOSA through all its transitions. Rev David Galetta, Vice-chairperson Rev Galetta is Chairperson of the Klipfontein MSAT and the Director of the New Hope Community Based Organisation. He is a member of the MSAT City Coordinating Team.

Dr Liz Gwyther Senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town where she leads the Palliative Care Unit within the school of Public Health and Family Medicine.
