NACOSA is calling for proposals for an evaluation of peer education in the Global Fund Sex Work Programme. The programme is funded as part of the Global Fund Investing for Impact against Tuberculosis and HIV grant. The primary objective of the evaluation is to understand whether the current peer education approach is an effective strategy to support sex workers so that they benefit from the programme. The timeframe for the evaluation is July 2018 – December 2018.

Q: I was wondering if you could explain NACOSA’s thinking behind utilizing recognized tools to measure trauma containment etc. Is NACOSA thinking that formal assessments should be conducted, for example by psychologists, or is this information requirement on the status of PEs less formal?
A: We would like recognized tools and methodologies to be used as much as possible for all elements of the evaluation. We do not however expect that psychologists formally assess the peer educators but can be interviewed by trained field workers.
